Fit for Sport - Fit for Life

At Marathon Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine we have provided high quality, affordable health, fitness and wellness services and programs for over ten years. In this time we have fostered relationships with many school districts providing services such as Athletic Training and Strength & Conditioning. In light of recent research related to childhood obesity, athletic injuries and physical inactivity we have designed new programs specifically for children.

Below you can find detailed information on our Fit for Sport - Fit for Life program:

OVERVIEW

Primary Background & Data

Our primary goal in developing new programs is to combat two specific areas threatening childhood health & wellness- obesity and the ACL injury.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, (http://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/ obesity/facts.htm), “In 2012 more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese”, and that, “schools play a particularly critical role in establishing safe and supportive environments for physical activity,” and also that schools, “provide opportunities to learn and practice healthy physical activity.” Marathon now has programs and resources available for use by schools to implement safe, fun and effective physical activity programs.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) states, “Increasing numbers of young athletes, especially girls, are tearing their anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, which provides stability to the knee. The increase is particularly dramatic in girls, in sports including high school soccer, basketball, volleyball and gymnastics.” Marathon’s diverse staff of Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers and Strength and Conditioning Professionals has worked together to design programs that will begin the prevention process at an early age to offer children their best chance to remain healthy throughout childhood and adolescence and provide a stable foundation for understanding and enjoying a lifetime of health, fitness and wellness.

Our Mission and a Solution

Keeping you well throughout the race of life is more than a commitment we make to our communities, it is also the cornerstone of each of our programs and our purpose for developing services specifically for children.
